I was contacted first by John Britt via Facebook through a private message sent June 1, 2013. I found the message Oct. 16, 2013 in my “├Âther” inbox and responded thinking it would be interesting to have a FB friend in England. He stated he was an engineer and a partner in a construction company based in Manchester, England. We wrote back and forth getting to know each on FB for approx 2 weeks. We discussed our hopes and dreams for relationships, what we did for a living, hobbies etc. The relationship progressed quickly with John stating he didn’t want any other man to contact me because he wanted me to be his wife eventually. He asked me to open my heart and mind to loving him and he also asked me to put my FB profile on private. Then on Oct. 29 John requested my phone # and email address so we could continue corresponding that way stating when he traveled he could check his email more regularly than he could his Facebook account. We continued writing back and forth with John and I making plans for our future together here in the US. He had me research investment properties as well as look for a house for us. I suggested that he come to visit so he could really be sure he wanted to live here so we started looking at a time in January that he and his son could visit. Then in November a business trip to Wisconsin came up as he said he had to purchase some replacement parts for the tractors/heavy equipment his construction company. We planned for him to come to see me after that with him scheduled to arrive on Nov. 28. He supposedly arrived here in the US and conducted his business negotiations over several days, even sending me pictures of the parts he was purchasing. On Nov. 26 I received an email asking for $5000 US dollars because there was a problem with him not having enough money for the shipping costs. He stated his company would reimburse me. We went back and forth several times with him asking for less money each time. No money was given to him. He supposedly was stuck in Wisconsin until the parts could be shipped the following Monday and he returned to the UK. On Dec. 4 his Facebook page was removed and I could no longer read our past messages. I did some digging and found a new page under Britt John and confronted him about it. He said it had been hacked and FB removed it. This happened right at the time a global hacking incident took place so I believed him and thought it could be related. After this his letters became shorter and shorter, with him not really addressing anything I said, saying he was really busy at work. Close to Christmas he said he was trying to figure out a way to come see me during the holidays. This of course didn’t happen. I was extremely suspicious at this point after doing some research on dating scams. I found your website and saw that another scammer Harry Brown uses John Britt as one of his aliases. John’s responses were fewer and he didn’t contact me on Christmas so I let him know how disappointing that was etc. He said had been with his son in Wales. He continued saying how much he missed me etc. The last email I received from him was Dec. 28th. I sent him an email the same day asking if we could just set up times to talk on the phone instead of writing and after that I didn’t hear from him again. After this I started doing more research on dating scams, traced the IP addresses for his emails to Malaysia, found profiles on 3 other sites and found the hotmail email address. I also found almost exact wording of some of our emails and Facebook messages on other anti-scammer sites during this time. I sent a couple more emails to both addresses with a tracer service (Readnotify.com) I found on the web to see if the sender would open them and a location could be pinpointed. I sent the last one Jan. 3 telling John not to bother me anymore (also with the tracer) with no answer and no updates from the tracer service. I’ve reported him to the above dating sites and his profiles were removed.
